I was born in South London many years ago. After a local authority scholarship to St Dunstan's College in Catford, I attended St Catherine's Society, Oxford studying geography.

I worked until the age of 49 for various parts of Philips Electronics in the London area as a Work Study Engineer and Computer Consultant. My wife and I opened the Wandle Gallery selling art and craft work, particularly ceramics, part time for some years. In 1989 we felt confident enough to open Dexterity in Ambleside full time. Here we sold a wide range of ceramics, craft work, paintings and limited edition prints until closing in 2005.

My first steps in using clay were in the late 1970s under the tuition of Brian Starkey at Sutton College of Visual Arts. I continued making part time through until 2005, taking part in occassional exhibitions, when I became a full time maker.

I am a member of both the Northern and Scottish Potters Associations. for whom I provide a list of new books on ceramics and review recent books for both newsletters. I am also a member of Cumbria Sculptors.internet.com.
